Finish
Natural stone can be polished, honed or flamed for a distinct appearance. Polished finish creates a glossy surface that reflects light, highlights the colors and stone pattern. Typically a polished finish is used on walls, furniture tops, counter tops, surrounds and floor tiles. Honed finish is a satin-smooth finish with little light reflection. Applications include floors, stairs, thresholds and high traffic areas. Flamed finish is a rough textured surface used frequently on granite floor tiles.
Profiles (Edge Treatments)
The profiles shown below are the most popular edges for bathrooms, kitchens and fireplaces. They are available on 2 cm or 3 cm stone.
Usage
The harder the stone, the more it resists abrasion. Natural stone strength is measured by it’s Measurement of Hardness (MOH Rating). 1 being the softest and 10 the hardest. Marbles rate “3” and quartz based granite rate 7 on the MOH scale. Specific stone selection and usage often determines the best stone for each specific application.
